Day 15 Shiprock, NM to Turley, NM

Today, we are leaving Shiprock and the Navajo Indian Nation Reservation. We had a pretty short day of 55 miles. The rock formations on the route today were very pretty. The short day put us into our next camp at an early time of 10:30 a.m. We stayed on the grounds of a vineyard/winery. Tours of the facility and the wine making process were available and tasting of the wines they bottle here. The grounds are down into a valley with beautiful rock walls surrounding us on two sides. The San Juan River winds right by the grounds and is supposed to be one of the premier fly fishing rivers in North America. Just before  sunset, the sun peaked out under the clouds and lite up the rock wall in a glorious bright wall for our enjoyment, just after dinner.

We had a relaxing afternoon, but it was again in the upper 90s and Julie came in pretty exhausted from her SAG duties. Everyone is looking toward tomorrow’s route, which includes over 5,000 feet of climbing.
