Day 10 Heber, AZ to St. John, AZ

Yesterday late afternoon, we had a spectacular lightning storm that came through. We were just on the edge of it. Hopefully, no forest fires will start from it. Just when the kitchen staff had the supper set up and we had started to eat, another shower came through that did not miss us this time. The staff rushed the food back into the kitchen trailer and we all went in there to get our food and ate in the school gym.

Today our ride took us away from the evergreen shrub area of Heber and we found ourselves in more open sagebrushy range land. You could see forever. We had a mostly downhill route for the first third of today and we had a great tailwind! What could be better than that to a biker!! The last part of the route was more rolling hills, with a couple short steep climbs thrown in. There were 5 of us riding today, Adam, Joel, John, Dan and myself. 3 of us decided to stop for coffee this morning and Adam and Joel kept moving on. Today's ride was about 72 miles and the temps climbed back into the 90s by mid-afternoon.

We are camped at a city park and there is a pool here. It is nice and our group has the pool from 4-6 p.m. Last night was chilly and this morning, but this afternoon it warmed up to the 90s and right now, as I sit in the library, we are having a wind storm move through. It seems that in this area, it is not uncommon for this to form each day in this high county. We are at about 5700 feet right now.

I am having a hard time get myself mentally prepared for each day, because of being the second sea to sea tour. I need to get my head in the game for each day at a time and get it done.
