Day 38 Sabbona State Park, IL to Lansing, IL

We woke up to a very misty, little fog morning. We needed to wear our rain gear to keep dry and we needed all our rear flashers on so motorists could see us. The rear flashers really show up in misty weather. It is always tough to pack everything up when it is wet from the night before. The day did clear out later in the day.

Our first third of the route today was very rural, with crops along the way. As we approached the Joliet area, it became more suburban. We had some detailed turns to make through the Joliet area for the middle third of the day. There was a short bike path along the Illinois Michigan canal and then some city, before finding the Old Plank Road Trail. The last third was on that trail for at least 15 miles and then suburban streets to our destination of Illiana Christian High School for the night in Lansing, IL. Local bikers helped mark the later third of the route for us and picked some good roads to come in on.

The Illiana folks really showed us great hospitality. They had dinner and an ice cream social for us at night and a great breakfast for us the next morning. Thanks to all the Illiana folks involved!! Julie and I got to see Brandon Haan's parents again. Brandon is from Lansing, IL and rode out to CA for the start of the tour with us and Adam.
