We had a short biking day today of 52 miles. We had an option
of buying our own boat tour tickets for a one hour ride in the Thousand Islands
area. Julie and I elected to do that, along with about 100 others from the
C2C tour. It was a large boat that could hold about 400 people. The area is
beautiful and is part of the St. Lawrence River. At this point it is really
part of Lake Ontario also and is a very wide area, with small and large rock
outcroppings of islands. Even the little islands have like one house on them. I
think most are summer homes and get their electricity from under water cables.
There are small cottages and very large expense homes, and one castle that was
started but not completed, as the owners wife died before it could be
completed. It was a fun break from our riding schedule each day and we were
glad we had done it.
From there we had about 20 miles on a nice bike path to
Brockville. We had a still tail wind and we were there very quickly. We are
camped St. Lawrence Park. There is only one shower per sex, so I elected, along
with many others, to take a dip in the St. Lawrence Park beach on the river. It
was cold but refreshing. Tomorrow we enter French speaking Quebec and will be
there through the weekend.
