A thunderstorm did roll through at about 10:00 p.m. last
evening. It was not as intense as was expected, but we were glad to be inside
the school for sleeping, and we did not have to roll up a wet tent. We found a
corner on the gym stage to put our mattress and drew the stage curtain for some
privacy and snoring barrier. We slept pretty well.
It was overcast this morning, but not raining. We had a
stiff northeast wind to put up with today. Our 78 mile route today was mostly
straight eastward to London. The wind was the worst the first thing in the
morning and Dan and I had to take turns breaking the wind and drafting. The
terrain was mostly very flat and few hills to contend with.
A couple riders from the 2008 tour greeted the riders as we
approached the London outskirts……Gail and Ralph. Eight miles later, the London
area supporters had a watermelon stop for us in downtown London. We had a long
section on a bike path in the city, along the Thames River. We arrived in camp
at the Christian High School at about 12:40.
We had a couple riders take spills yesterday. One had a
goose egg on his head, but was checked out and could complete the ride for
yesterday and rode again today. The other spill was serious and Paul from GR
slipped into a railroad crossing slot and flipped and broke his femur. He was
transported by ambulance back to GR for his treatment, so he could be home for
surgery and recuperation and be near his family. I am so sorry that he could
not complete the weeks that he had planned. Please pray for physical healing, a
good surgery outcome, and also for the emotional healing he needs for not being
able to complete the tour. I have seen people like this before after an
accident, and the emotional part is the first thing they think of and feel so
bad about.
We can’t believe how fast the time is going these last weeks
of the tour and we only have 2 days left to complete this week.
